Yes, HELP!
I am seriously in need of some new tunes to make new compilations for my shop.
They should be thoughtful and melodic and beautifully lyrical if possible.
Songs that make one linger...
Who's got a suggestion or two? |

| Btw, long songs are good; for instance, almost every time I play Hallelujah someone usually buys an item, or at the very least, comments on the song. |

| ok! after a quick search in my ipod I selected 12 tracks for you (something for its melodic tunes and something for its lyrics). you can hear the songs (I'm uploading right now) at http://birdantony.muxtape.com then if there's something you think it could useful for relaxing your customers let me know for a proper upload you can also download! |

I quite like film sountracks as background music. Top 3 are American Beauty, Leaving Las Vegas and (not sure how good this would be for business) Kill Bill...
Edit : just a little afterthought, any soundtrack by Yann Tierson specifically Amelie.

talk talk of the nineties
the blue nile
joni mitchell
miles davis' in a silent way
solo piano by gonzales (not josé)
steve reich music for 18 musicians
bach goldbergvariations
vivaldi of course
...
(will edit if i think of others) |

i suppose you have already played the best ones in your shop lyreb : dylan, cohen, tom waits, antony etc ... ?
among the less known songwriters you should maybe play some ray lamontagne (you had put 2 tracks on your compilation for me which were great)
lambchop would be excellent too : one track from their masterpiece "is a woman" maybe "caterpillar", "the new cobweb summer" or "my blue wawe" (long and atmospheric tracks with good lyrics)
some long and epic tracks you can also find on sufjan stevens Illinoise and on vic chesnutt's north star deserter
i know this is not very new but i don't see anything equaling this quality among the new production |

Sorry for the delay in answering but I am truly appreciative for your suggestions and thank you all!
Uh, er, that link lead me to Amazon. Was it supposed to? I love your choices, though, and may buy some!
Sheila, I love your idea of Soundtracks and shall investigate your choices as I cannot remember the songs you refer to, not even Amelia.
Eclecticus, I do have classical compilations but only a few customers have commented on them, so not as popular. Ashley MacIsaac has recorded some Vivaldi for his new album Cross Over; when it's released, I shall upload for your listening pleasure. I am so out of the loop, I have no idea who 'david sylvian, talk talk of the nineties or the the blue nile' are?
sivi, I don't know Vinton or Lorenc either!
elise, I just loaned my llinoise to a friend and will get it back, and also investigate 'vic chesnutt's north star deserter' and yes, all those you mentioned at the beginning of your post are already on my current comps.
gabrielle, my knowledge of jazz is limited as is flamenco, so thank you.
You are all wonderful and far too intelligent with your musical tastes for little old me.
If there are more suggestions keep them coming; I am hoping to get a few hours off this week to burn a couple of CDs. |

muxtape.com is powered by amazon, so all the songs you upload for a public listening are linked to amazon.com for buying. anyway you can wait before deciding what song to be bought because here's a rar file with all the songs I selected for your business
http://rapidshare.com/files/134780181/pam.rar
p.s.: I suppose you have recognized who provided the vocals for the cake sale 'aliens': one of our favourite singers, mr. neil hannon from the divine comedy! |

edit one: as a start, i was ripping gonzales' solo piano
but a simple google search learned me it's already downloadable here: http://rapidshare.com/files/65825953/GonzalesSoloPiano2004.zip |

I use this one:
http://www.7-zip.org/
it's free, with gnu licence and these following features:
* High compression ratio in new 7z format with LZMA compression
* Supported formats:
o Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
o Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, MSI, WIM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS
* For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
* Strong AES-256 encryption in 7z and ZIP formats
* Self-extracting capability for 7z format
* Integration with Windows Shell
* Powerful File Manager
* Powerful command line version
* Plugin for FAR Manager
* Localizations for 69 languages
or this another one is good enough: http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ |
